Leslye Young Fashion Design & Consulting
A sample maker guiding fabric through an industrial sewing machine, building a first sample.

A first sample is the moment the document becomes a thing you can hold. Up until now your product has been flats, specs, and notes. After sampling, it's something you can put on a body, feel under your hand, and see in light.

The job here isn't just sewing — it's translation. Making sure the sample maker reads the tech pack the way you wrote it, and that the garment that comes back actually answers it. I coordinate sample makers I trust and stay in the conversation so the handoff doesn't lose anything.

What it includes

Matching your product to a sample maker who works in your category. Sending the tech pack with any clarifying notes. Coordinating delivery and review timelines. Walking through any spec questions that come up during the build.

Why it matters

The wrong sample maker can produce a wrong garment from a perfect tech pack. The right one can produce a useful sample even from an imperfect one. Picking and managing this relationship is what makes the difference between productive sample rounds and circular ones.
